Land isopods are classified into omnivores, herbivores, and scavengers. They belong to class invertebrates i.e. animals without bones. They can live in oceans, seas, and even on lands.

As they are omnivores, isopods are supposed to eat fruits, vegetables, and plants. Isopods can eat carrots, lettuce, apples, wild leaf litter, and mushrooms. Isopods don’t eat molds, charcoal, wood, their babies, bark, or fungus. Isopods also east sphagnum moss. They always need something to hide, mostly they hide in barks and often they eat bark too. As there are different types of isopods and it depends on the type what they like to eat, some isopods like to eat live plants. Isopods are also fond of eating nuts and sometimes get into fights with each other for nuts. One thing that isopods cannot eat is citrus fruit, so fruits like oranges and lemons are not eaten by isopods. Some isopods also eat rotting pods.

As they are also carnivores, isopods eat many animals, insects, and organisms like spiders, and mites. Some giant isopods are seen eating sharks too. Isopods cannot eat crested geckos. Isopods do not eat snails or springtails. As they are scavengers, isopods also eat flesh. Isopods can also go for humans They have wide strong mandibles, that can easily bite through human skin.

Isopods are known as “Nature’s Cleaners”, which is why isopods eat fecal matter of almost all organisms. Isopods will eat the poop of geckos, snakes, etc. They are detritivores, they will eat anything dead. Isopods can even eat dead isopods, dead snails, and dead crickets.
