Copepods are considered to be very important because they provide food for many aquatic animals. Copepods are totally harmless, and they mostly eat detritus and phytoplankton.

Insects, Animals, and microorganisms

Copepods mostly survived upon algae, dead aquatic matter, and some bacteria. They are fond of eating detritus and phytoplankton and then provide nutritious food for aquatic animals. Copepods can eat zooplankton, bacteria present on algae, shrimps and rotifers, and single-celled organisms called dinos.

Plants and algae

Copepods are more likely to eat algae for survival. Copepods can eat hair algae, green algae, brown algae, which they always prefer over green algae. These shrimp-like organisms also eat micro planta which is present in oceans or in moss depending on their habitat. They can also eat seaweed and provide nutritional food. Copepods can eat plants as well.
