What Do Baby Crickets Look Like?

Baby Crickets also referred to as Nymphs, are short and dumpy. Crickets undergo three phases; eggs, nymphs, and adults. Nymphs need basic food and water to survive. They eat fruits, vegetables, packaged pet foods, and grains (alfalfa, rice cereals, etc.).

They are frequently present in vacant areas of the home; these places have less or no movement. They are found sleeping under the rocks, in bushes, or in small empty holes in the open spaces. Their average lifespan is three months.

What Baby Crickets Look Like?

Since baby crickets are in their developing stage, so their females lack ovipositors. They are several types, like field crickets, camel crickets, and house crickets, etc. Nymphs of Field Crickets have several different colors, but most of them are black-brown. They resemble adult crickets, but they are tinier in size and do not have wings. Their body is divided into three parts that are head, thorax, and abdomen. They have spherical heads that possess long and thin antennae. 

Camel Baby Crickets are typical. They have curved shapes; that’s why they bear a resemblance to the hump of a camel. Their head lies in the middle of the anterior legs and is bent downwards, and they range from 0.2 to 0.8 inches in length. Nymphs of camel crickets are often light brown (mostly with dark bands) with very long rear legs. Their long legs make them excellent jumpers, and they resemble a spider. This type of baby cricket does not usually chirp. 

One of the most found species of baby crickets is House Cricket. House crickets are generally light brown with three dark crossbands on their head. Their threadlike antennae are longer than their actual body. Nymphs of House Crickets are about 0.4 inches long and have flattened bodies with, particularly long thighs. Male and female house crickets look alike, and cerci are prominent in males.
