So you’ve locked your keys in the car. What do you do?
In case you lost your keys inside of your BMW and don’t have another one to use in order to open it, there are a few things that can try in order to get into the car. First off all, if you lost the keys inside without locking them outside, just leave them there and wait for somebody who can find a way in for you. If not then keep on reading.
First, try to open the door with a coat hanger or some other tool. If that doesn’t work, see if you can get into the car through the trunk. If all of those methods fail, you may need to call a tow truck or break into the car yourself.
If you have a BMW, there’s a good chance that you can unlock the car using the keyless entry system. Here’s how:
1) Make sure that the key is in your pocket or purse.
2) Hold down the “Unlock” button on the key fob for three seconds.
3) The car will beep, indicating that it has unlocked. You can now open the door and get inside.
If you don’t have your keyfob or it doesn’t work, this is still an option.
4) Press either of the two buttons on the driver’s side door with your fist until the door unlocks. This really works!
5) If that is not successful, check if any interior lights are flashing; then press either one of those same buttons again. If you hear a chirp (or beep-beep), then unlock your car like normal by pressing once on your keys in your pocket or purse (usually located above the ‘P’ button on most BMW remote keyless entry remotes). If you hear a second beep, then your car is in Valet mode. In this mode, the doors will unlock when using the emergency key in your glove box or any other interior button/lever/handle.
Hope this helps!
