Rat poison can expire and degrade due to the fact that it is usually made of organic substances that have a shelf life. But the poison can remain effective after expiration but it will gradually become less effective with time. As the poison degrades it is often less attractive to rodents.

Rodenticide, also referred to as the rat poison, as it’s generally referred to as a chemical substance used to manage the population of rats. They typically come used as a food poison and aren’t the kind of poison that kills instantly. In fact, the chemical components contained in these baits were specifically designed to kill rats a couple of days or weeks after consumption to stop them from becoming concerned about the poison you’re giving your pet to eat.

But, like nearly everything else in the world, it isn’t going to remain indefinitely, and based on the chemical used and the other ingredients the bait may be ruined over time.

Rat poison begins to decay over time and reduce the lure of rodents. When an expiration date is specified for the poison, it doesn’t mean the poison itself however, it is merely referring to the packaging and components used in the production of the bait. But, even when it’s over the expiration date, rats poison is still utilized, but it will not be the same effect as it was prior to. Rats can be very sensitive and selective in their selection of food items, which can be considered a biological compensatory for their lack of ability to eliminate. Therefore, a dead bait for them could be just similar to spoiled leftover food to us.

However, some rats might remain shrewd or brave enough to attempt the bait, even if it’s expired. However, don’t be expecting the number of deaths to be the same. If fresh rat poison is able to kill rats eight times out of ten so, you should consider yourself lucky if you are able to fool four of ten rodents with expired poisons.

In reality, the most popular varieties of poison for rats are likely to decrease in effectiveness as time passes If it happens, it should no longer be considered to be effective and should be eliminated.
