Do You Tip Oil Change?

If you want to tip your mechanic after an oil change, then you certainly can. However, this is not customary at all. People don’t usually tip workers after they get an oil change. This is because these workers are already getting paid an hourly wage and they make a decent amount of money. So, this is not something that people normally do. All the times I’ve received an oil change, I’ve never left a tip or felt like I had to do so.

Tipping Mechanics

It is not common to tip mechanics at all. In fact, I don’t know anyone that gets an oil change or work done on their car that leaves a tip to these workers. It’s just not something that happens on a regular basis if ever. Also, if the mechanics ask you for a tip, then don’t feel like you have to tip them either because the wage that they make is pretty good. To be a mechanic, you have to know what you are doing. So, this kind of work requires skills and knowledge as well.

At the same time, even though it is not the norm to tip mechanics, if you want to do so, then you certainly can. No one can stop you from leaving a tip to workers or for service that you received. If you feel like the mechanic did an awesome job and treated you well, then you are certainly free to leave them a tip if you want to.

I leave tips for service that I receive when I’m out, however, I only do this at restaurants or other places where workers don’t make a lot of money per hour. This is why tipping is usually done at places like restaurants. At the restaurant, you have to sit down and be served the entire time that you are there. So, it makes sense to leave a tip. Whereas getting an oil change is not the same thing at all.

The decision to leave a tip for a mechanic after an oil change is completely up to you. It is not required and you don’t have to do it unless you want to. In general, most people usually leave a tip if that is anywhere from $5 to $20 on average. Also, if you don’t have any money, then you definitely should not be tipping anyone to begin with.
