Bath and body works wallflowers are a popular choice of home fragrance for many people. Not only do they look really cute, they also offer an array of benefits that deter common insects from even approaching the vicinity of your home. The downside is that they contain chemicals that may be harmful if ingested or inhaled in great quantities.

What can happen if my dog ingests a wallflower?

Ingesting the oils present in the wallflowers can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The ingestion of too much of it can lead to weakness, convulsions and even death. Death due to ingestion is rare but it has been known to happen. If you see your dog ingesting any part of a bath and body works wallflower, it is best to take him/her to the vet immediately. Unlike humans, dogs do not have an immediate sense of smell. Given time, their sense of smell increases which leads them to simply inhaling the air around the candle or a few hours after burning a candle. If your dog has a large respiratory system and you burn it frequently, the chances of your dog developing lung-related issues are very high.

While dogs cannot tell you that they feel unwell or that their head is spinning, here are some symptoms to look out for:

Vomiting and Diarrhea Loss of Appetite Excessive restlessness Difficulty in breathing Change in behavior such as depression, unusual aggression, or lethargy

If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, it is best to take him/her to the vet immediately. Some manufacturers recommend that if Wallflowers are kept inside cars or places where dogs can gain access, they should be kept out of reach. However this does not eliminate the real threat posed by these fragrances.
